This is a tribute to the phenomenal athletes representing Cuba in the 2021 (scheduled for 2020) Olympic Games. We celebrate all of the athletes that competed, worldwide, but here we highlight the Cuban medal winners. Some of them have been competing and earning medals since the 2008 Olympic Games – four Olympics in a row!
GOLD MEDALISTS
GOLD MEDAL IN WRESTLING: Mijaín López, widely considered the greatest wrestler of all time, has now won Gold in 4 straight Olympic Games (2008, 2012, 2016, 2020), and has set a new record for the most Gold medals awarded to a Cuban athlete.
GOLD MEDAL IN WRESTLING: Luis Orta won his first Gold Medal this year.
GOLD MEDALS IN BOXING: This is Roniel Iglesias’ 2nd Gold Medal (2012, 2020), along with 1 Bronze (2008), Arlen López and Julio César La Cruz both won their 2nd Gold Medal this year, after winning Gold in the 2016 Olympic Games, and Andy Cruz won his first Gold this year.
GOLD MEDAL IN CANOEING: Fernando Jorge and Serguey Torres won Gold for the first time.
SILVER MEDALISTS
In Judo, Idalys Ortiz now has 1 Gold (2012), 2 Silver (2016, 2020) and 1 Bronze (2008), Juan Miguel Echevarría earned his first Silver in Long Jump, and Leuris Pupo added a Silver (2020) to his Gold Medal (2012) in Shooting.
BRONZE MEDALISTS
Lázaro Álvarez won his 3rd Bronze (2012, 2016, 2020) in Boxing, First time Medalists include: Reineris Salas in Wrestling, Rafael Alba in Taekwondo, Maykel Masso in Long Jump (pictured above with Juan Miguel Echevarría), and Yaime Pérez in Discus Throw.
